Europa 12…

Another version of the Europa 12 pattern. This is also a double-duck since I am using cdc instead of rooster hackle. I think this one beats the original when it comes to fishing. It floats better and creates much more life when it sits on the water. As with most cdc flies this one also needs drying after a few casts or a couple of fish. It casts well and will not twist your leader.

Double Duck…

This is one of my favourite caddis patterns. It is called Europea 12. Originally it comes from a series of french flies. Inspired by the excellent Switters B blog I want to post this version of the pattern. In this one I have added an underwing of cdc. It adds life and a more realistic look to the fly, also it floats better. The original pattern had two tails made from pheasant, so it was probably meant to be a stonefly imitation. Here in Scandinavia it is famous and known as a caddis fly. The original pattern is tied with a body of hares ear, rib of yellow thread. The wing are two mallard breast feathers and brown rooster hackle. I have exaggerated the length of the underwing a bit on this one, but then it might serve as a trailing chuck…
